How to Hire a Carpenter for Furniture in Nigeria (2026)
By NaijaArtisans Editorial Team · 5 min read · Updated June 2026
Custom furniture is one of the joys of furnishing a home in Nigeria — you get exactly what you want. But carpentry quality varies hugely, and the difference often hides inside the wood where you can't see it until a drawer sags or a door won't close.
Rough carpentry prices (2026)
| TV stand / console | ₦40,000 – ₦150,000 |
| Wardrobe (per unit) | ₦80,000 – ₦300,000 |
| Kitchen cabinets (per run) | ₦150,000 – ₦600,000+ |
| Bed frame | ₦60,000 – ₦250,000 |
| Office / study desk | ₦40,000 – ₦150,000 |
How to judge quality before you pay
- Ask what material is used — solid wood, MDF or particle board — and why.
- Check the finishing: smooth edges, aligned doors, drawers that slide well.
- Look at hinges and runners; cheap hardware fails first.
- See photos of finished pieces, ideally ones a year or two old.
💡 Agree the material and hardware in writing. A quote that looks cheap often uses low-grade board and hinges that won't survive daily use — you pay twice when it fails.
